Welcome to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council

Thank you for your interest in this key post.

Due to the forthcoming retirement of a longstanding and well-respected colleague, we have an exciting opportunity for you to become a member of a successful leadership team committed to delivering better outcomes for our children and young people.

Our ambition is for Redcar and Cleveland to be a great place in which our children and young people can grow up, with good schools and high-quality local employment opportunities. We believe that they deserve the best and, so, we are looking for the best person to fill this key senior role.

Assistant Director – Education and Inclusion

The Assistant Director – Education and Inclusion will be the council’s most senior advisor on all statutory educational matters and our principal relationship holder with our schools, academy sponsors, OFSTED, the regional Commissioner and the Combined Authority.

This role will require a senior leader with both experience in schools and a local education authority environment who has a track record of building effective and positive working relationships with Head Teachers, Principals and Governing Bodies to influence and secure high-quality provision.

We need someone with drive and ambition who will provide leadership across Children's Services, play a critical role in the development of the whole of the Directorate and be a champion for our schools across the Borough.

Although we face significant challenges such as the impact of the Redcar steelworks closure and some pockets of deprivation, our work in securing a combined authority and devolution deal for the Tees Valley provides an exciting opportunity to embrace new ways of working and positively influence outcomes for our residents. And there are schemes afoot for regenerating our former industrial sites to provide high-quality, skilled local employment opportunities.

We have a broad range of provision in the Borough; community schools, single and multi-academy trusts with some of the largest providers, faith schools and special schools. Our primaries consistently rank in the top five nationally for attainment. For what is a relatively small Borough, there is every kind of provision that you could ever experience and in a contained and collaborative place where all partners are pulling in the same direction.

This is also a great place to live, work and raise a family with varied landscapes, vibrant towns, coastline and beaches, affordable housing, and of course, great schools! We offer a competitive salary, flexible working, relocation package and above average annual leave. So, if you feel you have got what it takes, then we look forward to hearing from you.
